She wants to wear my shirt to bed
She wants to make every stray a pet
And drive around in my truck with no place to go

But she needs to feel that fire
The one that lets her know for sure
She's everything I want and more
Her real desire is to know I'd walk alone out on the wire
To make her feel that fire

She wants a cabin in the woods
She wants to stand where nobody stood
And someday she wants a couple kids of her own
Every time this song plays on the radio, Jason looks at me out of the corner of his eye and grins. Apparently it describes me well.

I forgot to tell a story!

A couple weeks ago - I really can't remember now when it happened - on a Sunday morning while Jason and I were getting ready for church, it suddenly began to storm. Right as we were about to walk out the door, there was a HUGE thunderclap and the fire alarms in the whole building went off. And continued to go off. Jason went out in the rain and walked around the building to make sure nothing was on fire. Nothing was, but since the alarms continued to go off and the emergency maintenance people for the apartment complex were EXTREMELY unhelpful, I called the non-emergency line for the fire department. They sent out a truck, and the firemen figured out that lightning had struck a tree that's about 5 feet from our apartment building, and a few yards from our unit. The electricity had jumped to the building and set off the alarms. It fried the alarms, which caused them to continue to go off even though there was no fire (thankfully).

We were extremely thankful that nothing happened, and that we were home when the lightning struck. We called the management when the office opened that afternoon and told them that the alarms had been fried, but they still haven't been fixed as of today. I've called several times to ask about the progress, and they never call me back. This is just one in a long list of problems we've had with them... and it makes me feel rather unsafe...

If you're friends with me on Facebook, check out the album titled "January - February 2009" for pictures of the tree and its proximity to our unit.

Our Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo tickets came in the mail today!! I'm SO very excited. Before Jason and I got married, I told him there were two things that he absolutely must take me to every year - the rodeo and an Astros game. So far, so good. Hehe.

This year we're taking Hanna with us and we're going to see Keith Urban on March 17th. It's going to be SO much fun! I love the rodeo. We've pretty much gone at least once a year ever since I can remember. Last year we got to go twice, thanks to a generous co-worker of Jason's who gave us tickets. I'm hoping we might score another set this year that way, also, but we'll see. I'm just glad we get to go!

The weather here has been fluctuating less and getting progressively warmer. Starting today, the temperatures aren't supposed to get lower than the 70's during the day for a week. I'm very happy about this! 70's and medium humidity is my ideal weather. Today it's beautiful - 40-something percent humidity and 72 right now. I've got the doors and windows open. It's wonderful!

Pastor Quail told me this morning that they're predicting a La Nina event this spring, starting about now. There's been that trend since last summer or so. For us, this means a very dry spring and possibly summer - which, considering we're already in a minor drought due to the La Nina trend lately, could be very bad. We'll just have to wait and see if the (generally wrong) predictions are true...

EDIT: The manager of the complex just called me about the fire alarms. (Did I reverse-jinx that or what?) They have to contract it out, which is a lengthy process due to the nature of the repair... or some such... blah. Being without a fire alarm in an 8-unit building (5 of which are empty) does nooot thrill me.
